WHY DO YOU PRACTICE?
At first it was just something new to try – I’d never heard of it – I had no concept. I wasn’t sure what to expect, but I like trying new things, I liked that it was unlike any other yoga practice I’d experienced, and I really like the energy that Martha brings to the practice.
I kept at it for months and I wasn’t sure what I was supposed to be getting out of it. I thought maybe I was doing it wrong. I thought perhaps it wasn’t for me. But I was encouraged to keep at it…so I did…and then one day I noticed the shift. My perspectives were changing. Things that would infuriate me, were no longer a big deal. People who drove me nuts became more tolerable. My attitude, patience and openness toward others felt warmer and more receptive – less judgmental.
It’s an experience that continues to evolve and I continue to notice new ways in which the practice changes me and the world around me for the better,
WHAT WOULD YOU TELL SOMEONE NEW ABOUT KUNDALINI?
Just do it. And keep doing it. And don’t look for a change or the benefit…just let it happen. Allow it to emerge. Be patient with yourself and with the practice. And in the meantime enjoy it…when else do you get to flail around like a lunatic, play with blocks and blankets, and chant in another language? They won’t let you back into day care (they’ll say you’re too old to flail around like a lunatic, play with blocks and blankets, and chant in another language)…so enjoy your Kundalini practice and see where it takes you.
