Welcome to the holidays!
In the spirit of the season of giving, I offer you a moment to yourself. This can be a busy time, with lots of exchanges and gatherings with friends, family, and colleagues. Pausing, even before writing holiday cards or making food to share, to settle into the full generosity of the moment can enrich the doing and its outcome.
The meditation that follows can be done anywhere, at any time–seated or standing, in line at the store or even in a back room where you can find a moment of quiet. First you will have a guided minute to clear your mind, and then a 4 minute practice of words and gesture.
A mantra is a word or phrase that we repeat mentally, re-minding ourselves of its message. In this case the message is "Peace begins with me." Very simple. A mudra is a gesture made with the hands and fingers that 'seals' the intention of the words, matching bodily sensation to your thoughts – embodying the mantra. The movement of your hands also provides a focus for the mind.( The focus creates shift towards the energy of the word or phrase.)
