"A kriya is an action infused with intelligence." ~ BKS Iyengar
In the coming week, take ACTION. Move with intelligence.
Determine what it is that matters to you.
Take time for it. Get quiet. Get active. Get real about it. Write about it. Wrestle with it. Question it. Receive it.
If you don't find what matters and stand for it and love it and nurture it in your own blessed way, it be less without your support. It may be simple civility - offering a smile and a greeting at every one you can (I have a running competition with a friend on how many 'Hello's or smiles we can gather in the supermarket). It may be tending a local park or protecting a major watershed. It may be supporting your local library or getting out the vote for your congressman. Something matters for you. And when you take part in it, you feel that purpose move through you. We are purpose seekers. We are meaning makers.
You matter. Your voice, your actions, your choices. Collectively this mattering makes us who we are.
This month our sequence (our kriya) establishes us in our Self. Listen closely in that moment of connection, in the shining quiet our practice can bring. Listen for what calls out to you there. What makes sense. Notice in the next few days - What changes your day? What do you really on? Need more of? Talk about it. At the breakfast table. With the person checking out your groceries. With the cyclist at the same stop light. With the person beside you on their mat. Stay with it. Let your intelligence grow. Share it out.
In this small gathering of days our country is without a leader. Here is the chance to remember that at the root of each moment it is actually up to us to lead ourselves.
Take a week.
Determine what you have to say. Loud or soft. Where your voice matters. Large or small.
I will do the same.
And we will lead each other.
Much love and grateful as ever, Martha
Next weekend (1/21-22) I will be away in NYC with a gathering of women. Kyle will cover Saturday vinyasa, Alex will cover Sunday vinyasa, and Daniel will cover my Sunday morning kundalini class. This will be the last time Daniel steps in to cover my class as he will be leaving Baltimore for some months to continue his studies elsewhere. Please come and wish him well and receive his teaching this last time together. I am so grateful for all of his support and devotion.
This spring I will be teaching a 100 hour training Power of Prana for teachers and non-teachers. It will help you to build a personal practice or design a class that uses the subtleties of prana/energetics and how to use the tools and techniques it has to get us from where we are to where we aim to be. Emotional state, physical health, spiritual connection. We are all evolving. This is a means of directing that evolution and tending its growth. Details are here. Register here.
OPEN HOUSE for that 100 hour spring training will be Sunday Feb 5, 9:30 @Yogaworks Federal Hill. This is right after our 8-9 morning class so come try it out and stay for details or to ask questions. Bring interested friends!
FEB 26 Rudiments of the Breath will cover the basics of breathing - anatomy, influence of inhale and example and pausing. We will practice a short kriya and three breath practices that you can use at home to find calm, center/focus, or increased energy. The better you know your breath, the more you can get from every yoga practice at home or in class.
Ready to introduce kundalini to a friend but you don't know how to explain it? That happens all the time! Send them to this page on my website to see an introductory video. Then bring them into class, sign them in as my guest, and they can come try it out for free!
