If you came to the Rudiments of the Breath workshop this past Sunday, thank you so much for your time and attention! If you couldn't make it, here are some notes to keep you included...
~ Tend the breath. Are you sitting tall? Rising through the front of your chest and the back of your head? Little squeeze to your inner knees to activate the belly to hold the spine tall? Be kind. Slow down. Let it flow through you. It will help you sleep, fight viruses, concentrate, and create the life you want.
~ Respiration goes into the lungs and via the bloodstream. Breath ('inspiros') / Prana / vital energy goes into and through the very surface of the body beyond us.
~ When eating food, breathe more deeply while you chew and between bites. This helps to add oxygen to the metabolic process, so you you digest more completely and receive more energy from what you ate.
~ Inhale to bring in more ... whatever you need or require (help, guidance, health, energy, inspiration, connection). Exhale to empty and release to make more ... space, quiet, calm, contentment, connection.
~ You can use breath techniques as you walk, as you lie down to restore yourself, as you practice asana, as you sit to breathe to practice becoming more skillful in techniques of breath
~ The workshop was less about technique and more about how vast the Breath is internally, and in how it can affect us, hold us, carry us, reset us. The few techniques were a sample of what is possible. I'll offer more but this was our foundation. It was a chance to slow down and start to pay attention to our own inner workings and feel how even their slightest changes have effects.
~ Notice how you felt as you rested on the bolster. How you felt after just a few minutes of changing the breath. Start with the rudiments. Find one or two that affect you and serve your needs. Add from there. Ask when you need me.
~ Using the essential oil of peppermint we could open the respiratory system, reduce inflammation in the sinuses, and create a clear and focused state of mind. I sold out of all my oil on Sunday.
