What makes you feel rich?
This month is Sobagh Kriya - the kriya for propsperity. Prosperity is often understood as financial abundance. But there are so many ways to feel Rich. And as I have mulled over this question I find that behind almost every answer is a mix of sensations: wellbeing, joy, enthusiasm, possibility, and security. As some of you may have found already, the kriya definitely delivers sensation. Warm, bright, kind, strong, encouraging, I've heard it described many ways in just the first week. And so with the sensation alive and bright within us, we can make choices and take action under its influence: we start to speak, move, decide with affluence and prosperity. Delicious.
I find it challenging to identify what feels like prosperity. It has taken me my full adult life to come to a relationship with money that feels healthy and direct. But for me, prosperity is about far more than just money. How best to approach it?
I am grateful to the insight of Gretchen Rubin's The Four Tendencies. It is there that I learned I'm a 'rebel'.
"Rebels want to act from a sense of choice, freedom, and self-expression. They resist control, even self-control, and often enjoy flouting rules, expectations, and conventions." ... "Rebels show up and become capable when they choose to."
When I was younger I didn't understand why I would act against my own better judgement, why it was so hard to follow someone else's instructions, or why I wasn't more often rewarded for my independence of thought that I enjoyed quite thoroughly (sorry, mama!).
I am grateful for Gretchen Rubin's work as it helps me understand and play with my own tendencies so they can be useful and skillful rather than detrimental. As I mature and own my inner rebel, I find a love of my attributes of non-conformity, and in them an inner wealth of love and acceptance. I have a tendency towards some of everything I encounter, but never all of one thing or another. Prosperity for me is permission to assimilate bits of what I find into my own inner recipe. To integrate what works, what I trust, and to share it out in new ways.
We each have our own inner sense of wealth.
But rebel as integrator, instigator, assimilator, guide all at once and at your humble service.
For me, this is my truest prosperity:
to be rich in freedom, discernment, literacy, connection, and purpose.
At our best, when we are prosperous we also become generous. Your inner wealth blesses me as mine blesses you. The food you make, the photos you take, the books you write, the children you raise, the dance you teach, the art you love, the homes you sell, the patients you tend, it all matters. All of these, done from a deep source of love, become acts of praise and serve us all. We gain altitude with our collective prosperity.
What riches do you seek? What sensations to they provide?
Get beyond your head this month - feel the wealth in your body.
Let its most subtle and fulfilling hunger be your compass.
